A hit to the head of Senators winger Mark Stone could cost Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba more than the controversial penalty he received in Sunday’s 3-2 Winnipeg win.
The play occurred at the 13:22 mark of the third period with Stone, who began the season recovering from a concussion, was caught in a vulnerable position attempting to make a pass after gaining the offensive zone. Trouba lowered his right shoulder, catching Stone upside the head.
Trouba was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head while Stone remained on the ice for several moments. On the Senators bench, an irate Guy Boucher argued for a five-minute major and game misconduct against Trouba to no avail. Stone did not return to the game.
I’m writing on behalf of PETA and our more than 5 million members and supporters worldwide to urge you never again to have live animals at Heinz Field, given the disturbing video footage showing penguins from the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium scrambling in terror after being paraded in front of a screaming crowd and in close proximity to ear-splitting fireworks.
It’s inherently stressful for wild animals who naturally shun contact with humans and are extremely sensitive to environmental changes to be hauled around, used as props, and exposed to noisy crowds, with or without explosives going off. Hockey fans come to see talented athletes compete, not shy animals terrorized.
Being held in captivity is stressful enough to make penguins susceptible to illness, and putting them in a crowded, noisy stadium only makes matters worse.
The Pittsburgh Zoo, which supplied the penguins, issued a response, saying, in NFL Jerseys Authentic part, the safety of the animals is “top priority” while making it clear Cheap Michael Jordan Jerseys For Kids the live penguins were the NHL’s idea, not the Pittsburgh franchise’s.
